If you want to head to the island to feed, hug, swim and play with dolphins and other sea creatures, you’ll want to catch the ferry from the mainland. The ferries depart at 8:45am, 10:15am, 11:45am, 1:15pm, and 2:45 pm heading to Blue Lagoon Island. Well, they’re not the kind of ferries you might be thinking, but high-speed double decker catamarans that will take you on a scenic 20-minute boat ride to the private island.
There is simply nothing as magical as swimming with dolphins. In the Dolphin Swim Program, you will get the unique opportunity to interact with these amazing creatures in their natural habitat – those warm turquoise waters of the Caribbean.
You’ll first experience a fun and educational orientation, where you’ll briefly learn about the natural history of dolphins, animal training techniques, ocean conservation and Watchable Wildlife Guidelines.
Next, you’ll don your lifejacket and slide into that warm blue water to meet your new friends. You will no doubt instantly fall in love with these gentle and playful animals. After you spend time dancing and swimming with your new dolphin pal, you’ll get to experience something truly amazing, the foot push! This is where you’ll lie on your back and a dolphin will push you by the bottoms of your feet. You’ll feel like you’re flying!
And, don’t worry. There are professional photo and video on staff to capture your time with the dolphins, so you’ll have something to bring back home with you and make friends and family jealous!
Your adventure is just getting started, because there are other exotic animals waiting to meet your acquaintance. How would you like to get up-close-and-personal with a sea lion? Blue Lagoon’s educational and entertaining Sea Lion Encounter allows you to learn more about and interact with these “puppies of the sea.” This is one of the few programs of this kind in the world, so you don’t want to miss it.
You won’t actually swim with the sea lions, but interact with them in a specially-designed area where the water is only waist-deep. The staff will also get photos and videos of your time with your new pals.
But we’re just getting started! Spend another day on the island enjoying the company of stingrays! Certified animal trainers will first teach you about the natural history of the gentle Southern stingray in a fun, education program. Yes that’s right, these creatures are actually gentle, so you can safely interact with them. You’ll get to feel their silky-smooth skin and even feed them. But if you really want to be taken with theseanimals, you’ll have to snorkel with them and watch their graceful movements in the water. It’s an experience of a lifetime.
There are other fun activities that you can enjoy out of the water as well. One of the most popular is the Segway Safari Tour. Glide on a Segway across the beautiful island and take in the tropical sights. You’ll visit sandy beaches and see historic places that make this island special. This is a fantastic way to experience some of the hidden gems of the island.
